Located between the towns of Palafrugell and Mont-ras, the Cap Roig Gardens are a unique space in the Mediterranean. This 20-hectare site boasts around 800 botanical species from all around the world and around 20 sculptures from renowned artists. The gardens are the stage of one of the most iconic summer music festivals, the Cap Roig Festival.
This institution was constituted in 1986, thanks to the pharmaceutical entrepreneur Antoni Vila Casas, with the aim of promoting contemporary Catalan art. Its centre is in Palafrugell (on the Can Mario site) and brings together some 220 sculptures dating from the 1960s, belonging to various artists born and residing in Catalonia.
In 1973, the local author Pla decided that the place in which he had been born should become an important legacy for the people of Palafrugell. Today it is a place that is highly recommended to get to know the manuscripts of this great writer.
The Empordà painter Salvador Dalí left us a great legacy. We encourage you to discover it by visiting the three places that make up the so-called Dalí Triangle. The Dalí Theatre-Museum in Figueres is home to a large collection of surrealist works, in addition to the pieces in the Dalí-Jewels space. At the Salvador Dalí House-Museum in Portlligat (Cadaqués), you will find what was his home and workshop, which contains the artist's furniture and personal objects. The third place is the Gala Dalí House-Museum Castle in Púbol, in the municipal area of La Pera, which Dalí bought for his muse and where she is buried.
With its essence of the past, this charismatic museum is located in one of the most important former cork factories in Spain. The building, constructed at the end of the 19th century, is notable for the Modernist-style decoration on the main façade. Its water tank, also considered to be in Modernist style, is unique in Catalonia. From the top of the Tower you can enjoy magnificent views of the Empordanet.
Its historic centre or Barri Vell is one of the most evocative ones in Catalonia and has monumental features that are unique in Europe. It is delimited to the east by the so-called Passeig de la Muralla, the path following the ancient Carolingian (9th century) and late Middle Ages (14th and 15th centuries) city walls. Its monuments include the Call, the former Jewish, among the best preserved in Spain; as well as the famous colourful Casas del Onyar, houses built on the river bank of the Onyar and very close to the Cathedral, with its huge single nave, which is the widest one in the world in Gothic style.
